The rape kit backlog is the overwhelming amount of unanalyzed sexual assault forensic exam evidence in which that DNA evidence is never sent to a lab. There were over 100,000 untested kits in the US as of 2021. Rape Kits are also being thrown away after just 6 months without notifying the victim. No evidence should be destroyed. Victims deserve the right to know the status of their rape kit and every kit must be tested to ensure fairness and accountability.
Non-disclosure agreements are keeping victims silenced on college campuses by not allowing them to disclose any information about their sexual assault. Universities are pushing students to sign these NDAs in order to file a report.
The Speak Out Act protects employees in their jobs but students across this nation are defenseless. The Survivor Outreach and Support on Campus Act aims to fill in the gaps for students and prevents them from being controlled by universities. Call your local and state representatives today and show your support for student survivors by saying no to NDAs.
